LEONARDO CAFFO IN RESIDENCE IN HELSINKI: ART, PHILOSOPHY, AND THE NEW FINLAND-ETNA AXIS

We are delighted to announce that philosopher and writer Leonardo Caffo is invited to Helsinki for a 14-day residency period , scheduled from February 11 to February 23, 2026. The visit, supported by Myymälä2 , will take place at the esteemed Villa Eläintarha residency.

The stay is dedicated to connecting Leonardo Caffo and his work with the professional network of Myymälä2 and other organisations in Finland. Caffo’s presence is expected to have a very important impact for the art community in Helsinki , aligning with Myymälä2’s mission to promote excellence in artistic and cultural exchange around the globe. Myymälä2 is a non-profit artist-run contemporary art gallery in the heart of the design district of Helsinki since 2002.

Content and Research Focus

During the residency, the core activities will involve writing and the exploration of themes at the intersection of art and philosophy.

  1. Public Presentation: Caffo will give a presentation at the Myymälä2 contemporary art gallery , aimed at engaging with new audiences and students of Fine Arts.
  2. Collaborative Creative Research: The period will be crucial for conducting creative research together with artist Egle Oddo. Their long-term collaboration started in 2019 , and this time they will work on a project initiated by Egle Oddo and developing in Finland and in Sicily. It is necessary that they have a period working together in the same physical space, to advance with the artistic research.

The project will specifically explore the intersection of landscape, ethics, and non-humanity, with a focused investigation into the volcanic context of Etna (Sicily), which serves as a key location for the southern part of the work. The residency will provide essential time for the writing and conceptualisation phase required to shape this binational research.
